Come one, come all!
Announcing…
*drumroll please*
…a Valentine’s Day Period Drama Blog Party!
There’ll be a tag and games here at Along the Brandywine and you can also contribute film reviews, character studies, whatever you’d like to dream up connected with the whole period drama romance theme.
Details
- For the purposes of this party, I’m specifically narrowing it down to period dramas set in the 17th-20th centuries (let’s say 1600-WWII -- not sure if there are many set in the 1600’s, but it’d be fun if you know of any xD).
- The only other specification is that all entries must be family friendly (i.e. not rated R).
That’s it! So start brainstorming my lovely fellow period drama loving friends and be sure to grab a banner/button or two and splash them about (including a link back to this post) so as many people as possible can join in the fun.
Yay, I can’t wait! ;)
(P.S. And I'm sorry, blogger is giving me a bit of a run around on the picture sizing/how visible the type is, so some of them are more suited to sidebar use, others if you want to use in a blog post. I've messed with them a whole bunch, but now need to get busy with some Christmas festivity plans... hopefully you can still find one of them that works beautifully for you! <3)
I can’t wait!
ReplyDeleteIvy Miranda,
DeleteYay!!
I'm going to write about Dawsey Adams and Juliet Ashton from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
DeleteIt's not a film, but I can do a post on one of my favorite regency era novels, Faro's Daughter by Georgette Heyer. (It's clean, of course)
ReplyDeleteMary Kate,
DeleteSounds great. That'd be lovely!
I can't wait! I'll at least do the tag and games. I'd love to do more but depends on my current reads and motivation and energy in February.
ReplyDeleteLivia Rachelle,
DeleteYay! So glad you're looking forward to joining in. :)
Oooo I can't wait! I'm looking forward to it! :D
ReplyDeleteMiss Woodhouse,
DeleteHurrah!! I'm getting so excited too! ;)
I am in! I am so totally in! I'll start thinking of something and get back to you soon! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteMovieCritic,
DeleteYES, so happy you're excited and looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Here I am the day before coming up with something to write about! Sorry about that! I want to write about the 2019 Little Women. Thanks!
DeleteMovieCritic,
DeleteNo worries AT ALL. ;) Can't wait to see your post whenever it's ready!
This sounds like so much fun! I look forward to doing the tag!
ReplyDeleteSamantha,
DeleteOh good! Looking forward to your answers. :)
Ohh, so fun! I think I might do a post on Anne & Gilbert because they're my favourites. :) <3 This sounds like SO MUCH FUN!!!
ReplyDeleteGabby,
DeleteWonderful! And yes indeed, we most definitely need plenty of Anne and Gilbert. ;) Looking forward to seeing whatever you feel like writing up! :) <3
Can part of the movie take place within the time periods stated in the details section? I'd like to review the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, 'The Love Letter'. However, parts of the movie take place in the 19th century, while other parts take place in 1998, when the film was released.
ReplyDeleteSally Silverscreen,
DeleteYes, I think that could be ok. Are the 19th century parts integral/a major part of the story?
Hi Heidi! According to IMDB, the character from 1998 is exchanging letters with a character from the 19th century.
DeleteSally,
DeleteOh! Huh... interesting. Well we'd love to have you participate so I say go for it. :)
Thanks Heidi! Looking forward to the blogathon!
DeleteHow absolutely jolly! I have no idea what I'll contribute, but because you mentioned stories set BEFORE the 1600s, I'm tempted to write about Martin Luther and Katherina Von Bora in the movie Luther (2003). It's not at allllllll a love story, though. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteI have it! I will review The Three Musketeers (1948) for this!
DeleteHamlette,
DeleteYay!! Isn't it though?!? :) Either of your ideas sound lovely. Personally one of my favorite parts in the best great love stories is how the romantic relationship fits into the whole broader world around them/life, etc, which I'm guessing the Martin Luther film might touch on? I do have a blogathon idea up my sleeve for this year on Epic Stories (which I was debating rolling all together with the period drama party but it just seemed like it would get too broad and messy), so I don't know if Three Musketeers would be something you'd want to do for that... It's totally up to you though! Now that I've just probably made it all more confusing *face palm* xD
I am thinking that the Martin Luther biopic is much more epic than 3 Musketeers -- I think an epic is a story that either covers a long period of time or a long journey of some sort (thinking of things like Gone with the Wind, Giant, and Lawrence of Arabia). Luther is much more like that, following his life from before he's a monk through the start of the Reformation and his appearance at the Diet of Worms and a little beyond. Whereas The Three Musketeers is more of a romp.
DeleteHamlette,
DeleteOooh... Martin Luther in an epic category would be great and such an intriguing idea. I vote for Three Musketeers then.
I like your definition of epic. I'm thinking I definitely want to do that blogathon (possibly around Easter? so have to make up some buttons and post on it soon), but anyway I'll specify more then so people know what it's about, but heroic deeds definitely play a major part in the whole concept and Martin Luther would be fantastic. xD
This sounds great! I'd like to write about "Emma," please (the Gwyneth Paltrow version), if that's OK. I'm at Taking Up Room.
ReplyDeleteRebecca,
DeleteWelcome and the '96 Emma sounds perfect. Looking forward to it!
Ahh, can't wait! :D
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be combining at least one of my entries with an entry for Cordy's Lovely Blog Party, so a couple of the period dramas I mention in that post may not meet each of the specifications -- it depends on how strictly we're interpreting them. Is that okay?
Olivia,
DeleteSplendid!
Oh yeah, no problem. Just as long as you're able to make an explanatory note/include a link in the post, no worries. :)
Oh, this sounds lovely. I'd like to write about John Ridd and Lorna Doone, if that's all right, from the Lorna Doone early 2000 film.
ReplyDeleteI'm The Sacred in the Secular (charitysplace.wordpress.com).
Charity,
DeleteWelcome, and I'm so glad you mentioned them! I've really been wanting to get around to seeing that so looking forward to your entry.
You should definitely watch it! They are both so selfless and sweet, and caught up in "circumstances beyond their control." ;)
DeleteCharity,
DeleteIt sounds great! I'm not sure I'll get to it before Valentine's Day, but I'm hoping to host an Epic Story blogathon around Easter and thinking of possibly reviewing it for that... You think it'd fit in that category too? :)
Given that it's classic literature and epic-sized, I do! ;)
DeleteHi, this sounds lovely and adore your banner of Anne and Gilbert, and lovely to see someone reviewing them. Can you add me with A Room with a View (1985), thanks.. will be checking out that tag too if I've time.
ReplyDeleteRealweegiemidget Reviews,
DeleteThank you! Happy to have you and looking forward to your post/s!
Thanks, there are a coupe of blogathons on my blog if you would like to join- it would be great to have you.
ReplyDeletehttps://weegiemidget.wordpress.com/
Realweegiemidget,
DeleteI'll give them a look see and check my posting schedule -- thanks for the invite!
Ooh, a period drama party! Yes please!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to write a blog post about how Jane Austen successfully used the love triangle as a literary device in her romances, whereas many other authors (in my 'umble opinion ;)) fail to use the love triangle well.
Katie Hanna,
DeleteYay! And sounds great -- looking forward to reading your post! :)
This sounds delightful! I'll definitely join in. I'll just have to think of what to write for. February is going to be a busy writing month! :)
ReplyDeleteCarissa,
DeleteI'm so glad you think so and we'd love to have you join in! (Though I very much understand about busy seasons. ;P) I did just post the tag, so maybe that'd be an easy possibility? Hope all is well! <3
Hey there Heidi,
ReplyDeleteHere's my post for the blog party... Happy reading!

from Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews
Gill,
DeleteGreat and thank you! Off to read it...
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the post.
ReplyDeleteDear Heidi,
ReplyDeleteI haven't been checking for blogathons enough recently. That must be why I haven't heard of this wonderful idea! Although I am hosting my own Valentines blogathon this weekend, I want to join! I'd love to write a review of "Camille" from 1936, which is set in 19th century France. I'm excited to see and review it! I'm going to look at your other activities now.
By the way, I would like to invite you to join my upcoming St. Patrick's Day Blogathon, The Luck o' the Irish Blogathon: https://pureentertainmentpreservationsociety.wordpress.com/2020/12/10/announcing-the-luck-o-the-irish-blogathon/. We could really use your talent!
Yours Hopefully,
Tiffany Brannan
Tiffany,
DeleteGlad you found it in time and we'd be happy to have you join in!
Thanks for the invite! I'll check it out. And I'm also planning to host another blog event in April/hoping to get details about it up soon after Valentine's Day, so keep an eye out for that. :)
Looking forward to your post!
Dear Heidi,
ReplyDeleteI ended up writing about "Quality Street" instead of "Camille," which I didn't have a chance to watch. Here is my review: https://pureentertainmentpreservationsociety.wordpress.com/2021/02/14/100-new-code-films-13-quality-street-from-1937-the-real-regency/. Thank you for hosting this part! It was fun. I look forward to hearing your next blog event announcement.
Yours Hopefully,
Tiffany Brannan
