This is a quick post announcing that I'm joining in Miss Laurie's 2016 Period Drama Film Challenge here. I'm definitely in the Fanatics Category (i.e. I know I'll be watching at least 12-15 films between now and July), but I'm not sure how many I can review, so I'm starting with five. (One can always work up, can't one? ;)) Tentatively, I'm thinking of doing some or all of the following (and obviously, I can't vouch for the ones I haven't seen yet):
(1975) |
(Haven't seen this one yet.) |
(Haven't seen this one either.) |
(Or this one.) |
So do you think any of those look intriguing? Any particularly you'd like a review of?
And I'll leave you with this... found via Pinterest the other day. (I do love Pinterest. ;))
An excellent summary for this next year...
"Belle" is on my list too! I haven't seen it yet, either.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Mask of Zorro for sure!!!
Hamlette,
DeleteYay, then we can compare notes! And perfect -- I have Certain Plans I'm pretty sure about for Mark of Zorro. ;D
I'm thinking of reviewing the '70s TV remake with Frank Langella. Perhaps we should discuss Certain Plans?
DeleteHamlette,
DeleteOhhhh, I looked it up and YES, WE DEFINITELY NEED TO DISCUSS THIS!!!! Hopefully ASAP. :D (And thank you so much for the note yesterday!! This week's project is to be slowly but surely working through my patiently languishing inbox... ;))
My online project this week is FINALLY catching up on blog-reading, and hopefully finishing reading all the Cinderella posts too -- I only have the books left!
DeleteOut of all the movies you listed here, Belle is the only one I've watched. But it's awesome!!!! I think you'll really like it! :D
ReplyDeleteBlessing,
DeleteThank you! It's great to have your recommendation and I'm really looking forward to it! :)
Oh, I loved Amazing Grace. Wonderful film and story.
ReplyDeleteI still want to see In the Heart of the Sea.
Ruth,
DeleteIsn't it beautiful? And yes, I'm pretty curious about that one, too.
I so want to see Belle . . . but my library doesn't have a copy :(
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh--PLEASE REVIEW AMAZING GRACE BECAUSE THAT MOVIE IS AWESOME.
Ahem. ;-)
jessica,
DeleteOh, that's sooo sad! And I know, doesn't it sound amazing?!? :)
Heehee. Okay, I'll do my best!! I have to gather some coherence on it. ;D
Ohhh IN THE HEART OF THE SEA, we watched it in December :D Liked it.
ReplyDeleteI do love Belle, she is an amazing protagonist. I liked her too...
Ria Sanive,
DeleteOh, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it! I'm definitely getting super intrigued on that one. :)
And about Belle... from everything I've heard she sounds incredible! :)
The Mark of a Zorro is a family favorite at my house. :)
ReplyDeleteLois,
DeleteHooray for a fellow Zorro fan! ;D
YOU WILL LOVE BELLE.
ReplyDeleteEnd.
Naomi,
Delete*grinning* Thank you for the vote!!! ;)
Oooooh, Amazing Grace! I loved that one! I really want to know what you think of Belle. I haven't seen it, but it sounds really good :)
ReplyDeleteRosie,
DeleteIsn't it wonderful?? And yes, I'm reeeallly hoping to see Belle. :)
I haven't yet seen Belle, but I REALLY want to!
ReplyDeleteCopperhead and In the Heart of the Sea sound so intriguing, but I'm not sure about them content wise. Well, what I mean is, I'm not sure about Copperhead, but I'm pretty sure I might have to wait awhile before seeing ItHotS. :)
And Amazing Grace....I'd LOVE to hear your review of that!!! :D
Natalie,
DeleteMaybe we can compare first impressions then! :) Does your library have it? And yes, I'd definitely finish doing some research on those two first before watching. (And then if I do the reviews, I'd make sure to highlight any iffy content, like I did with Ever After.)
And yes!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Oh, good! I'd love it if you could highlight the content, especially for Copperhead. I tried looking at the parent's guide for it on imdb, but they didn't have any information. :/
DeleteYes, definitely! I know my library doesn't have Belle, but I may be able to request it....I'll tell you if I see it! :D
Heidi, just wanted to let you know, I nominated you for the Earliest Memories tag. You can check it out here: http://countingyourblessingsonebyone.blogspot.ca/2016/01/my-earliest-memories.html
ReplyDeleteBlessing,
DeleteLovely! I have some posts waiting to be written (so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it this time), but I'll check it out and either way thank you so much!!!! :)
Looks intriguing! With this list,I have seen only seen Amazing Grace (I cry every time!). Heart of the Sea looks amazingly good!! :D
ReplyDeleteSarah,
DeleteIt's sooo powerful, isn't it? :) And I KNOW... I'm getting super interested in that one, so I do hope I can see it!!
Amazing Grace is one of my favorite movies! I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one. Also Belle. I've never seen it myself, but I've read other reviews so I know a little about it. :) Oh, and a BBC Anne of Avonlea! That sounds interesting, too!
ReplyDeleteMiss March,
DeleteIsn't it lovely? Yes, same here on Belle... :) And yay!! I'm so glad you'd like to hear about the BBC Anne! I'm reeeallly hoping to do that one. ;D
Sounds like fun! I'll be joining in too and can hardly wait to start! I'll need to come up with my list.
ReplyDeleteOh, and because you were the one to recommend it to me, I must tell you that I LOVE The Music Man! So much so that I bought a copy! Thank you soooooo much for mentioning it to me. Broderick is amazing! Oh, and in case you're interested, I did blog about it HERE. ❤
Carissa,
DeleteI'm so happy you're joining the challenge! And super excited about some of your reviews... especially the '83 JA, all the Dickens, Lorna Doone (really want to see that one), the 1940 P&P (which I love and might possibly review too, if I end up with enough time ;)). Also, the golf one at the end looked most interesting -- love that time period!
*I'm still grinning all over about The Music Man* And I saw in the comments that you got the soundtrack, too -- yay! We have the dvd and soundtrack as well -- LOVE THAT MUSIC!! ;D
BELLE. Oh, Heidi, you will LOVE Belle. Currently, it's one of my top three favorite period dramas (the others are Wives and Daughters and Sense and Sensibility 2008). :D Anyway, I'd really like to read your review of that one!
ReplyDeleteOlivia,
DeleteHeehee. Thank you so much!! That's most encouraging. :)
And great top favorites list! W&D is so amazing. Also (and I think partly because it isn't my top favorite JA novel) I can never seem to decide which of the three S&S's I've seen I like the absolute best... but REGARDLESS the '08 is most definitely on my favorites list. :D
Oh my goodness I want reviews for all of these!! I'd especially love to see a review for Belle and In the Heart of the Sea! And Amazing Grace! And Mark of Zorro... lol. Okay, all of them!
ReplyDeleteFaith,
Delete*laughing* Thank you so much!!! I'm super happy you're excited and thank you for your votes -- they're most encouraging! :)
I want to see Heart of the Sea SOOOOOOOOOOOO badly!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun challenge. I may have to see if I can participate in some way... probably can't commit to more than 5 or 6... but I think I could manage one review a month...
Jenelle,
DeleteI KNOW...!!! Tall ships, lots of sea, and deep character arcs?!? YES. I'm really really really hoping I can see it!!
Oh, that would be splendid if you could join in! I'm trying to keep it easy, too and not overload my schedule, but I figured one a month would probably be manageable... :)
