Guest Post on Frodo

I was recently honored to do another character sketch for Hamlette's Lord of the Rings read-along on her delightfully encouraging and hospitable blog The Edge of the Precipice. It's on Frodo this time and here's the link! Again, do check it out and I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Heidi, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading your guest post. What you shared about Frodo's life and journey, reminds me of my own Restoration and Redemption by the blood of my Lord and Saviour. Frodo actually reminds me of myself - given that he struggled with tempation and that he had to be saved. To me, Same was the Christ figure-type: he was always there for Frodo and never left him to walk on the hard path on his own.
Thank you for sharing. Now I wanna go read the boos! :p

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Sarah!

And exactly! With Sam, I actually got thinking along those lines, too... I'd often thought of the three roles (prophet, priest, and king) as kind of matching up with Gandalf, Frodo, and Aragorn respectively, but then digging into Frodo's character more here was really interesting...and Sam started coming out in a different light I hadn't seen before. Yes, I think there could very well be four big figures going here (and probably more I haven't yet thought about). I'm so glad you noticed it! Tolkien's just amazing, isn't he? :-)

    2. I just realized that I forgot the "k" in "books. Oops!

I really did enjoy reading it - I'm even having my sisters read it. :-) I didn't even think of Gandalf or Aragorn, thank you for pointing them out. Now I need to go read up on their characters. Tolkien work goes beyond amazing! It baffles me every time I read his books at how detailed he was in his writing - just incredible!

    3. I'm glad! I do hope they enjoy it, too. :-) And I'm laughing about the *amazing* bit... would staggering or stupendous be better descriptive words? :-)

    4. Yes - those are better words to describe Tolkien's work. :) ''Stupendous'' is just right. :)

I'd love to hear your thoughts and look forward to further confabulation. Please just be courteous to one and all. Oh, and I love thoughts on old posts, so comment away!

(Also of late -- what with time being finite, and Life Happening + managing multiple blogs and computer issues and all that -- I sometimes have to alternate between creating new content and replying to comments, but rest assured I'm thrilled to hear from each and every one of you and always hope to reply thoughtfully in full ASAP. <3)
