Welcome to our July Inklings! I hope you've all been having a great summer! We've been busy getting ready for our county fair -- always so much fun. :)
As always, feel free to join any time here until the next prompt goes up! ๐
Rules:
1. At any time during the month, on your own blog post a scene from a book or film that matches the prompt, including a link back here in your post.
2. Make sure to come back and leave a link to your entry in the box on this post. That's it!
~
July's prompt is:
A sword dueling scene in book or film
Have you seen the 1987 Hazard of Hearts with Helena Bonham Carter and Marcus Gilbert? I discovered it earlier this year and it's rather funny because (though based on a more recently written story) it's all true gothic melodrama of the sort Jane Austen was spoofing in Northanger Abbey (รก la The Mysteries of Udolpho etc). But I think I've watched it twice already (some parts more than that ;)), because it's also quite sweet!! Adorably sweet. ๐ฅน My mom enjoyed it too. Full disclosure, Edward Fox does play a truly despicable villain, but that definitely makes the ending duel immensely satisfying. ๐
And apologies. There aren't a lot of high quality pics out there, especially of the ending scenes. (The film quality itself is dated, but not this fuzzy. xD) But hopefully these give you an idea. I really can't wait to review it one of these days and spill all the beans! ๐
Have you seen or heard of it?
You can pop your links below:
๐ฟ Have fun and can't wait to see what y'all come up with! ๐ฟ
I hadn't heard of this before, but it sounds/looks like the sort of thing to look out for!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the county fair!
Cecilia,
DeleteI hope you can watch it sometime! I found it on Amazon prime streaming.
And thank you! The fair was a great time. Super busy, but so much fun. :)
I'm ever so slightly too late with my submission, but hopefully that's all right :P
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this, but it looks quite cute! I love seeing famous actors in obscure early films like this :D
Lizzie Hexam,
DeleteNo worries! Delighted to have your entry. :)
And likewise! That alone made it really fun and interesting.
Not this post inspiring me to rewatch one of my favorite swashbucklers...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the excuse! ^_^ The last time I'd tried I stopped part way through because I was worried that it wasn't going to be as good as I remembered, but this time proved that it was!
Chloe,
DeleteOh wonderful and my pleasure! *bowing deeply* xD
And I totally get that... I've experienced the same scenario with other films. I'm so glad you like this one too!
